What if your sim has the FREE WILL to react on the wishes you select for him/her. In sims 3 the sims reacts to their surroundings they are in, e.g bookshelf - so the sims will read a book. I'm thinking, what if you select the cinema wish, your sim will react on that wish and get in his car and drive to the cinema. That amount of free will. Do you think that is at all possilbe????

How would they react? I don't think I quite understand.

More free will, they would do alot more without been directed by us. Every wish we choose will trigger the sim to do without direction from us. We are still able to control the sim, but the sim will respond to all wishes and desires out of his/her own free will. Does that make sense.

No, I mean how do you imagine they would react, think about it wishes are things they want like people we have things we want no one grants things we want we do ourselves.

Exactly, sims should respond to ALL their wishes by themselves without been instructed to. You can sit back a watch how the actually fulfill their own needs and wishes. I mean all of them not only a few. More free will

Why play at all? Why not just sit in the food court at a mall and watch people do as they please, fulfilling their wishes.

In the food court you dont have the controll but in the sims you still do. Everyone chooses how to play their own game but I prefer to not fully control my sims. I enjoy when the variation in the game.

This could possibly be an option for the game, but I would not want it to be mandatory. Say I saved a wish for my sim to go to the movies, but for later that day or the next day. It would be kind of annoying if the sim kept trying to go to the movies when I wanted him to do something else. But if you like really high free will it would be nice for it to be an option.

Not if that much free will is on. However with the free will in the game now I always play with it all the way on.

I agree that having that much free will would sort of annul the point of the game. But it might be alright to have the feature as an option for those that want it.

The only point where I can see it is having more user control with free will if that makes sense, like you're playing one family but you want to almost play two at the same time for example extended family and the core family, and you could but that much free will on the extended family.

The free will in the sims 3 is ok, my sims always do the same thing when I am not instructing to do something. They either just stand around, read, watch TV or play play computer games. There are times that the will do other interactions without been instructed to do so, but I would like sims to be spontaneous and do be more aware of the wishes we select for them and they should react on that. I agree free will must be an option in the game.

I agree with plumdrop, if the sims had free will the game would just be like a movie because we wouldn't have to do anything.

Alright let me put it this way. Has your married sims ever hit on another sim without been instructed to or having the flirt trait. That just irritates me, because there is no reason for such behavier. So what does wishes actiallly do beside getting bonus life points, it does nothing for the sims personality or behaviour. So if the wishes were directly connected to his personality or behaviour, the sim will then act upon the wishes and traits you have choosen for the sim. Therefore controlling the sim by the wishes you choose to keep and allowing him free will to act on those wishes aswell.

No my sim hasn't hit on another sim even with those traits. Some traits are connected with wishes I noticed this with the neurotic sims.

I see what you're saying. I too enjoy giving my sims free reign and in turn writing stories about them. But I'd enjoy it more if they had a bit more common sense. I mean, an active sim who has the desire to go swimming and yet makes not one move to jump into their own pool? I do wish they had more autonomy in granting their own desires according to their personalities and lifetime goals. And like others have mentioned, still being able to control them, either to help or thwart their wishes is paramount :) If you can't step in then what's the point?

I fully agree with your thoughts. I want to be able to control them and make things happen, but there should be some correlation between their wishes and their personalities/things they are more likely to do on their own.

There is on some oddball traits like neurotic, but they should definitely make their traits more defining to a sim.
