The T rating is exactly why.

Certainly you could have a Sims game with "adult" topics in it. I'm not talking porn (though, uhm, that exists if you really want it); just things that make the game more serious and remind people of real-life dilemmas, tragedies, and adult choices. For example--the ability to directly murder someone. Guns, knives, and other weaponry. Abortions. STDs. Child abuse. Incest. Permanent disability. Natural disasters that cause large-scale death. War. Miscarriage and stillbirth. Homophobia; racism; sexism. And yeah, suicide.

All of those are things that are really too serious for a T-rated game where it's par-for-the-course to hide llamas in unusual places and where wetting oneself in public is a common scandal. There are games where you'd want serious stuff like that, but not the Sims. Sims is a light-hearted take on life, and even when it gets "serious"--like with divorce or the death of a child--it doesn't get too serious.

Modding adds those things for people who want them. Personally, I like to add serious elements to my game, but I can see why some people wouldn't want them. The more moddable a sims game is, the more universal its appeal.

One thing I think is an oversight though is the absence of permanent disability in the Sims games. I think that Sims ought to be able to have disabilities just like they can be straight or gay, black or white, etc., because disability isn't one of those "Mature topics" (like being able to shoot someone to death) that you worry about your eight-year-old knowing about. Disability is more like a thing that just kinda happens, and you cope with it, and you go on with your life. I think the reason it hasn't been included is primarily that a physical disability would require custom animations, and would increase the workload on the programmers.

If someone wants to mod it into the game then fine. However, I don't think this should ever be part of the official gameplay since it's just not suited to the subject matter and would definitely raise that rating from Teen to Mature which we know they don't want.

It would be very similar to if they added things like miscarriages, racism, paedophilia, or murder to the game. Does it happen in real life? Yes it does. That doesn't mean it needs to be part of the Sims or that it should be.

If EA added this stuff the game would have a 18 rating not 12 rating would you like a 12 year old boy/girl killing someone in Sims with a gun i wouldn't

:atomic1::wtf2:All I know is if SIMs got into what you are mentioning here.. I would never play it...I play sims cause those type of things are not in my game play...how ever if you are looking for that sort of game play I suggest trying one of the ONLINE adult games which some are rated R and beyond...thank goodness I don't have to see any of these types of things in my game play with SIMS...I see enough on the news in REAL LIFE and thats depressing enough why the hell would I wanna see it in my sims game!...:devilish::rage::banghead::mad:

I'm not saying it is right to have a suicidal Sim, however I think it could be interesting to make one and see how many times I could foil their attempts at death

LOL, no need for a Suicidal trait! Just play Sims 1; their AI is so bad they will routinely go and play computer games when they're dying of hunger. It's not that they couldn't program a better AI back then; it's more that the AI was just kind of a nice little add-on, and you were more expected to just give Sims all the commands they needed.

Maybe that's more "Too Dumb to Live" than "Suicidal", but it'll do.

as someone who used to self harm ...I find this upsetting and kind of triggering tbh...I think EA made the right decision not to give traits like this in the game...
