Cannot clean one specific mess in one specific room!

    So I have one trash pile that both my Sim and my maid refuse to clean. They manage to bag it up then stand there dumbfounded and drop the mess back in the same place. The trash can in the room is empty, there are no path obstructions (its right next to a desk). I have even tried demolishing the room and the mess stays on the ground outside the house if i destroy the entire room.
    Brutal.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
