It's a very touchy subject and while I mostly am against it for the reason that there are a lot of people out there that could use this in the most cruel ways imaginable. I'm not physically disabled but I do stand up for those that are, honorably and respectfully as well as any other person, disabled or not. It's not a matter of if 1 or 2 disabled people aren't moved by this, but the masses in general.

I'm fully aware about disabled people being more or less capable of doing things non-disabled people could and I'm glad that they can and are showing that there's no real difference between the 2. But as I said before, there are still those group of individuals that could use this advantage (having disabled sims) to practice some cruel behaviors toward them and then putting those online for the world to see.

If we didn't live in such an ignorant, dickish world I'd PROBABLY be perfectly fine with this being a great idea for an EP. However as it currently stands I personally believe it should not be officially incorporated into the series.

If anything I say above is insulting, offensive or hurtful I am sorry and it's not intentional. There are no subtle alternatives I can think of.

Although I am aware that Sims is a game that attempts to Simulate reality, there is only so much they will do before it becomes uncomfortable. Reality is sick, gross, twisted, sad, painful, and downright morbid sometimes. People get diseases to the point of being entirely disfigured and disabled. People get attacked by other people (shot in the face, etc) or mauled to the point of disability or being unrecognizable. People are born with genetic disorders and other VERY serious 'defects' that brings a life of disability or they get into terrible accidents. Disability is mental, as well. Autism, Schizophrenia, etc. A lot of people with disabilities have some rather sad tales (not all, or some do not personally feel they have a sad story) and as Dr. Phil would say, the topic could be offensive to some peoples sensibilities. Not because disability offends them, but because, although not all do, SOME people and families go through very traumatic experiences that revolve around or result in disability. It is untrue to say disabled people can do most of what normal people can as a generalized statement, because there are SO many different kind of disabilities out there. My grandma couldn't walk, use her arms or legs or back, feed, bath, or toilet herself for the last 5 years of her life, in which she lived at home and I and my family cared for her. She couldn't even turn her head. She could only speak. She had such severe dementia that she would just call our names all morning and night and cry and look miserable. We did what he had to but I was a rather day dreamy, silly 15 year old when it first happened, and it changed me a lot and I got PTSD and was not the same for a long time. I would do it again if I had to but I would never do it in a game, because they're was nothing enjoyable about it - but that's a part of life. If I ever got on the Sims and found my first gen Sim age up to elderly and become bound to a wheelchair or even crutches and there were "help open items" or "help feed, help this, help that..." I would probably have a panic attack and uninstall the game.

100% agreed what you said. That's why I was telling people... it's very bad idea for wanting them in game? I am SO glad they don't add anything there in game. Thank goodness.. Yanno because some people who thinks it's great idea is EVIL. I believe somewhere in their brain, that mind is really twist and evil. Just like couple of movies... like "What Ever Happen to Baby Jane?" or other movie I watched was real nasty.. like a woman who wants to see her or him to be more suffer and force her/him to feel a very disable.. like she would say, "Shit, let me bath you! *ripe the clothes* I'm having a horrible bad mood come on *shovel* oh gawd you stink!!!" Or maybe somewhere inside of the owner(s) that needs to feel something like pinch real hard in an abusive way... like push harder... She grabs a spoon and then pick this dull dried cold mushed potato from the bowl.. *shovel it in her/him mouth* EAT IT! *a poor disable choke*... or push the wheelchair on the ramp all the way or see how far they manage to get out of the bath tub under super hot water to see if they feel anything, etc.. see? That kind of people are like they need to feel better almost satisfied when they abused them. That's really sick. I say NO to disabilities in game. Not gonna happen. PERIOD.

A bad idea/suggestion all around. Its an area that gaming as a whole purposely avoids, which we all know is a touchie subject/area. Not the same but just like asking if there were child to child and or child to adult sex mods out there, would it be ok? There is a split down the middle. On one hand, it is wrong and disgusting and so on, on the other, well its only animated cartoons, not real. The same could be said for those with disabilties and in wheel chairs. Not only that about those with disabilties, but what of those with missing limbs? Disfigured? It, then goes rather farther, too far that is away from the fantasy side of a game. So no, its best to leave those sort of things out of a game all-together. You want more realism, then one should not be playing PC or console games, one should play in life.

@Dana I'm sorry for the business with your grandma. But there are a lot of disabled people whom are able to take care of themselves. You know how you feel about wanting to uninstall the game if the Sims did have disablities? Well a lot (not all mind you) of disabled people especially those in wheelchairs don't like the fact they can't make themselves in wheelchairs since they feel they're unacceptable in a (sims) society of being able to be gay and also be a witch when a magic EP cames out. Where there is no discrimination in that world.

Gay isn't a disable. Get the fact straight! Plus Any disabilities in game are NOT gonna happen. How about helping in real life than stare at wheelchair in game? That is so weird.

I get they aren't disabled. But maybe you should think about how is it alight for sims to be GAY but yet disabilties isn't? We also will have witchcraft eventually in the game too. And to some people being a vampire or werewolf are a form of disabilities.

What is wrong with you?! You're saying that because someone wants a wheelchair bound sim(s) in game that they are sick and twisted? how does that make any sense. And the abusive story/movie description you put in there, what the hell do you watch, you seriously need to rethink things.

I've already made my point as far as having disabled sims in game, simple solution to people possibly torturing their sims in wheelchairs, make it like the pregnant sims in sims 3, where they can't die from fire, drowning, hunger, etc. They can die from old age, but that's natural. Also if it's children in a wheelchair make it so that if they're neglected they get taken away; there problem solved.

I've been wanting to portray myself in sims games for years, even if it's with a wheelchair you just sit in and move around without being disabled I'd be fine with that, at least it would be something.

Sims can't be gay, they can only be bisexual which isn't the same thing.

I think what @TheChosen was trying to say that there are people in the world who are very twisted, and who would enjoy abusing disabled Sims, which would turn the Sims into a completely different game than it is.
While I agree with everyone that there ARE disabled people and they should somehow implement something similar into the game, to me it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Having Sims in wheelchairs would mean that they would have implement a whole different level to the game, new animations, new objects, different interactions, etc.
It would be incredibly easy for them to slip up, or implement something that would be interpreted in a completely different way. The thing is that with subjects like this it's incredibly easy to rub people the wrong way, I think the discussion in this thread has sure shown that.

For the safety of The Sims, I think they're better off not including disabilities. They would undoubtedly get sued for anything people can find. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the My little pony fandom, but in the latest series of MLP there was a 'disabled' pony: her name was Derpy, she was cross eyed and very clumsy.
She is adored by the entire fandom and no one even thinks about her representing anything bad, but a certain group of people thought otherwise and sued Hasbro (the company who owns MLP) and forced them to completely remove her from the series. As a response the animators have hidden her in pretty much every episode in season 2, kind of like a Where's Waldo.
My point being, there will always be someone who gets offended, and someone who will want to sue, someone who money will need to be paid to, someone who takes things the wrong way. I hope they are smart enough not to go there.

While I'm chiming in on this topic I'd also like to encourage everyone to share their thoughts, but please try to make sure you're not being offensive in doing so. We do have people with disabilities on the site, and please don't discriminate against them.

I understand that in a society like today anyone's pants can be offended or sued-I mean I hear that one person even tried to sue GOD!. I understand that not all disabled people (or people who know someone whose disabled) want disabilities in the game but there are an equal number of disabled people (or people who know someone whose disabled) who do want disabilities in the game. The game is suppose to be kind of play as you wish right? So if a disabled person wants their sim-self to still be in a wheelchair and be married to a sim Anglia Johansen they could. Or when a sim was in a wheelchair the simmer could make then a witch if they so want too while still in the chair. I already explained about the abuse on page 1 or so. But like someone else said how is it aright to make fun of able-body, fat, or racial sims but disabilities is different especially when there are TV shows (yeah I know different media)-like Family Guy I hear makes fun of disabled people with that wheelchair guy?

It doesn't matter about the fact sims are freaking bi. If I want to play a lesbian couple I can or a gay couple I can. As well as straight couples. If we had disabilities in the game if I wanted to I could have my sim be a wheelchair gay and eventual witch sim. how is alright we are able to have bi sims who can be 'gay' but its not alright for us to have disabilities? Don't respond with the old stuff give me a reasonable excuse.

Yes there is the issue of in the sims 4 that its likely that a disabled sim would most likely be evil-like Long John Sliver or Captian Hook or they would want to be 'cured'.

Could you please stop claiming that homosexuality is even remotely similar to a disability?
It's quite offensive towards me personally.

I'm sorry for offending you Melaine. But I can't help the similarities since its was the way I was raised. Disabilities, gays and African-Americans were all part of MLK's walk and all three groups still have civil rights and prejudiced against them today. I'm not trying to compare the two but how would you feel if you couldn't have a same-sex couple? Some disabled feel similar about no disabilities.

here's some stuff they could keep out of the game because it could offend someone
"oh now we don't want to offend the Catholics lets gets rid of bi/gay sims"
"Oh we don't want to offend the pure white people so get rid of any people of colour!"
"Oh we should get rid of woman and children!...."
